NANCY BERNSTEIN
Over the course of her distinguished career, Nancy Bernstein has handled over 100,000 criminal and civil cases, ranging from traffic tickets to settlements totaling millions of dollars. She has been recognized with the Pillar of Justice Award from the Nevada Justice Association. This prestigious award is given to lawyers that have settled cases of major public importance in state or federal court, including appellate court.
Nancy’s interest in law began at a very early age. She was exposed to the workings of the legal system after witnessing her brother’s fatal electrocution by faulty city wiring. Having immigrated from Cuba and not yet fluent in English, her family faced a difficult legal battle, yet prevailed in the end. It was at that moment when Nancy knew being a lawyer was what she wanted to do as her life’s work.
Nancy earned her JD at William S. Boyd School of Law at University of Nevada in 2004. She clerked for District Court Judge Lee Gates upon graduation. She also clerked in the Clark County Public Defender’s Office.
Nancy has maintained significant ties to our community by volunteering throughout her career. Most proudly, she donated her service at Southern Nevada Legal Aid for over 10 years as a CAP (Children’s Attorney Project) attorney and represented many children through difficult circumstances.
Fluent in Spanish, Nancy received approval by the Mexican Consulate of Las Vegas as an attorney deserving of their case referrals. She has appeared on Telemundo to discuss legal issues and has written many articles to help the Latin community understand their legal rights. She was recently nominated to the Nevada State Bar’s External Committee Board of Indigent Defense Services.
Nancy’s civic involvement also includes being appointed to the Las Vegas Arts Commission, where she helped develop the downtown Arts Factory.
In her personal time, she is an artist, a certified Yoga Instructor, and an avid horseback rider. She has three children, one of whom has followed in her footsteps and is a lawyer in Washington, D.C.
